CAR CARE - TIPS AND TRICKS

Back to Car Care INDEX

Fuel OR Spark

By Peugeot Pete

Got a problem, you need answers. Look inside the cylinder. Remove a sparkplug, if it's dry, good chance no fuel (inside), if it's wet, good chance no spark. This will give you a direction (injection or ignition) before stumbling all over yourself.

By pulling the line on the fuel pressure regulator, it said the fuel was getting to the rack, but through the injectors? It did tell you that fuel was at the injector, so fuel in and of itself is not the problem, it's electrical. Now is it electric spark or electric fuel? That's why you look inside the cylinder with the sparkplug.
Once you have these answers, you know which way to go.

Transmission Overhaul

By Peugeot Pete

Transmission, it's definitely not as smooth as it was. Occasionally it's hard to shift from N to 1, say, 1 out of 10 times. 1 to 2 very occasionally is balky. Sometimes, reverse is a bit tough too. It always improves once the car has been driven for a while.
Before overhauling the transmission, using this additive or that additive, there are three things you need to do, adjust the cable, adjust the cable and adjust the cable. When the cable cannot be adjusted again then think of other measures :-)

Vacuum Leaks

By Peugeot Pete

I replaced the pump with one I know to be good. Nothing changed. So I've decided to one by one disconnect each component and plug the hose at the disconnection and see if one of the components is bad. Either the brake booster, the cruise control, or the ventilation system is leaking or a combination of the above. Since I can't hear the leak this is the only way I can think of to track down the problem. I'm sure you would know a better way, if there is one. Anonymous

Get a paint gun regulator, so you can regulate the pressure. Take the line going to the air cleaner off and put the regulator there, use shop air with engine off, set pressure to 30 lbs, all is now quiet, put a vacuum hose in your ear and chase the sound. Any questions call :-)
