You were given the old QUAKER STATE story, PENNZOIL is a synthetic which is similar to TEFLON and does indeed leave a film. Where QS got its reputation from was when people would change their oil & filter they would use QS, the best, then between changes they would add the cheapest they could find.
Now let me make this statement, ALL OILS ARE GOOD, its the additives that different Mfg's put in their oil's (to clean, to withstand heat, ETC) that DON'T MIX.
So the term QUAKER SLUDGE, QS took the wrap for the public mixing oil's. If you purge (clean out ALL the old stuff), you can use ANY brand, so long as it meets spec's) and DON'T add ANY other BRAND. You can go from light 10W30, to 10W40, to 20W50 without purging IF it's the same BRAND.
IF you knew it all, you wouldn't be asking questions to begin with. I've been all the way around this world, three times, touched every continent, and quite a few countries, seen most, heard most, and ahh..ahh.. done most (just didn't get caught). I cannot be embarrassed, or insulted, unless you use the term, YOU LIED, I told it (what ever) the way I saw it with the information I had at the time, so if you saw it different with different information then I stand corrected, But don't tell me I lied.
If you think of your Peugeot as a fine horse, keep her clean, give her good food (fuel & oil), cool her down after every run (let her idle before shut down), take care of her illnesses as they occur (fix it when it breaks), listen to her as she talks to you (the different sounds or responses), protect her in foul weather (antifreeze, in the fuel to, and heaters if needed).
Also like a fine horse, she was broke in on USA roads so she doesn't know how to run all day long at speeds above 55 MPH, but what about Europe where they run all day long at speeds of 200-220 KPH (115-130 MPH), they were broke in at those speeds. In 1968, I was stationed in Europe, I bought a VW type4, 1700cc, US model. Within 6 months, I blew that engine, rebuilt it and broke it in, in Europe. When I came back here, I took it to Langley Raceway and was giving the big blocks hell, I was challenged twice. To be challenged means that there was more in my engine than I said, because a VW doesn't run that fast.
Now to old wives tales, remember, who told it and about what. There's a lot of common sense in those tales and there's a lot of fairy in some. <l:-0
