The Peugeot Baby (Type 69)

1902 The Peugeot range is totally updated, along the lines of the Type 36 model introduced the previous year and boasting a bonnet and steering wheel. The old models listed in the catalogue are only there to run down stocks. The Peugeot motor cars head office is set up in Levallois. Audincourt has a staff of 800 workers, while Fives-Lille has 600. A Peugeot truck is awarded a national prize, while a 20 hp Peugeot makes it to the top of La Turbie (Alpes-Maritime) at a speed of 25 mph.

1903 Armand Peugeot slims down his range of cars. The catalogue now consists of 6 Types: the 42, 43, 44, 50, 54 and 56. The first three of these have 4-cylinder engines, the 50 has a 2-cylinder engine while the last two have single-cylinder engines. Introduction of the first Peugeot 5 hp motorcycle.

1904 From this year onwards, Armand updates his range every year and this trend continues almost up to the time of World War One. In December comes the introduction of the Peugeot Baby (Type 69), the first to bear this name: it has a vertical single cylinder engine and is unveiled at the Paris Show. Les fils de Peugeot frères develop their first motor car.

Type 77 (1905) 306 models built

1905 The Peugeot factories produce 30 tonnes of phonograph springs per month! The first automobile produced by Les fils de Peugeot frères is a Lion-Peugeot with a single cylinder engine, unveiled at the Paris Show in December. It is followed later by a V-design two-cylinder version. While Armand directs his attention to ambitious cars, the Lion Peugeot models are more popular small cars. This means that the two companies are not in direct competition. Eugène attempts a rap-prochement with his cousin, Armand but in fact, it is only following Eugène's death in 1907, that his three sons will reach an agreement with their uncle in 1910 to merge the two companies.
